What is Iyengar Yoga?
B.K.S. Iyenger is considered to be the creator of Iyengar Yoga. This form of Yoga is brought up on the same basis of conventional Yoga, the only differing factor is the use of supports or props for instance straps, pillows, worktable, sand bags and slabs in this form.
Iyengar Yoga is focused on maintaining proper alignment of the body. For doing so in a proper way, different supports may be used to make the asana more easy and possible for people to do even if they are just starting to do Yoga. With the help of supports people who are not in best of shape can also perform asana and enjoy the benefits of Yoga. Iyengar Yoga lays emphasis on standing poses as these are known to strengthen lower limbs, boost general vigor and perk up flow, synchronization and stability. In Iyengar Yoga the participants are given proper guidance to perform asana and poses with any malalignment or bad practise being corrected immediately, then and there. Iyengar Yoga can be effectively applied to different diseases and problems. The developed ways of treating conditions such as hypertension, knee pains, unrelieved low back pain, sleeping difficulties, depression, patients after heart problems and many more have been seen very effective, result oriented and providing many benefits to the patients. This form of Yoga has to be modified according to the stage the patient is in a particular disease or condition.
This form of Yoga has been found very effective in treating and helping patients with nonflexible and injured parts of the body and is very well being used in physical therapy sessions. The biggest advantage of this form of Yoga is that it can be done easily and asana can be maintained with the help of props which otherwise a person cannot maintain and perform without years and years of vigorous practise.
