  5. Inhale and lift your head, chest and arms off the floor while pressing your elbows and forearms against the floor.
  6. Slowly open your chest and draw your shoulder blades together. Ensure that your pelvis remains pressed against the floor.
  7. Hold the pose for as long as you are comfortable.
  8. To release the pose, exhale and lower your chest, arms and head to the floor.

Precautions

Matsyasana is an advanced pose and should be practiced with caution. Those with neck, back or shoulder injuries should avoid this pose and instead practice supported backbends such as Bridge Pose.

Those with high blood pressure should also avoid the Fish Pose, as it can raise heart rate and blood pressure.
